We are excited to announce that Uchenna Dance has been successful with its second funding application to Arts Council England. Vicki will be back in the studio this week working on developing Our Mighty Groove to a full length 50min production for performances in March and April in 2015!
Originally created in September 2013, Uchenna presented OMG to a sold out crowd as part of Sadler’s Wells, Wild Card season at the Lillian Baylis where Vicki also curated the night titled Between The Lines.
The piece is inspired by her baptism of fire at a New York underground club. Vicki says:
“Dancing in New York was a life changing experience for me. I was literally baptised on the dance floor of this underground club; I came in as this shy and nervous individual who felt out of her comfort zone and left a confident woman embraced by a loving community of dancers. I wanted to return to London and share this experience with everyone!
Our Mighty Groove is for the PEOPLE irrespective of your gender, sexual orientation, age, race, class, education or economic status. Just enjoy the story unfold as you create your own memories.”
Our new home
Uchenna Dance is now part of the WAC Artist in Residence (WAC AiR) programme and are now officially based at WAC Arts. This will also be the new home of our weekly evening classes. We are thrilled to be able to further establish and define our partnership with this WAC Arts and are excited to see what the future brings!
