Hello Uchenna Family!

How are you doing?

How was your festive break? I hope it was filled with all the things you wanted, needed and wished for. I had the best break (will share in a moment!) and am using that energy to energise my 2023 and beyond.

What is energising you this year?

Here at Uchenna HQ we are continuing our collaboration with Sadler’s Wells through one of our signature touring shows, Our Mighty Groove. First created in 2013, Our Mighty Groove celebrated the life changing moment I had in an underground New York House Dance Club in 2009.

This experience quite literally changed my life, as a human, a woman and artist. I was empowered to believe in myself and all I could do, when those around me took the time to really see me, and meet me where I was at. While I was too busy comparing myself to others in this club, they had already accepted me for who I was, welcoming me into their community and world.

Now fast forward 14 years later since this life changing moment for me and 10 years

since the first public performance of Our Mighty Groove for Uchenna, we are now in the research and development phase of creating the mid-scale version of Our Mighty Groove, to open the new Sadler’s Wells East Theatre in Stratford.

What a journey!

While we have our professional cast in place, we are actively looking for young people in the East London area who would love the opportunity to join Uchenna and Sadler’s Wells for the making of this show. There will be a series of open workshops taking place over the next few months.

We are really looking forward to the making of this new version of the show and can’t wait to share it with you. Look out for updates on our website and follow us on social media.

Personal News

I mentioned earlier that my festive break was an incredible one. This is because I said I DO to the man of my dreams, and I couldn’t be happier. My husband (WOW, is the feeling every time I say that!) is the kindest human being in the world and we feel so blessed to have found each other.
