What is Emerging Futures?

Emerging Futures is a 6-month dance and leadership programme for artists who know they have more to give, but are asking: “What’s next?” Beginning in July 2026, online sessions will run through to January 2027, with an in-person intensive offered from 13th – 17th July in Leeds.

Whether you’re stepping out of formal dance training, finding your way through with informal dance training, or have been in the industry for a while but feel stuck or overlooked, this programme supports you to move forward with clarity, confidence and momentum.

Emerging Futures combines:

  • High-quality dance training in the Uchenna way
  • Insight into creative and professional pathways
  • Ongoing coaching and accountability to help you take action

This is not a content-heavy course. It’s a space designed to support you to stop circling and start moving. To make decisions, take action and build momentum in a way that works for you.

What Makes Emerging Futures Different?

A lot of programmes give you information and leave you to figure it out. Emerging Futures stays with you. It offers:

  • Time to think
  • Space to be honest
  • Support to take action
  • A community of people who are also figuring it out

Who is Emerging Futures For?

This programme is for you if:

  • You’ve trained in dance whether formally or informally.
  • You’ve been in the industry for a while but feel stuck, overlooked or ready for a shift
  • You’re done with collecting information and are ready to actually move forward
  • You’re willing to invest time, energy and commitment into your next step

This is not about becoming something else. It’s about getting clearer on who you already are, and building the confidence and momentum to move with that.

Programme Structure:

  1. Pre-Programme: Online Meet & Connect (7th July)

A relaxed but intentional starting point. No pressure to have it all figured out. Just a chance to arrive and begin.

  1. Intensive Week: July – 5 Days, In Person at The Dance Studio, Leeds

Across the week you will:

  • Train in Uchenna’s movement language through company class
  • Learn and explore repertoire from Our Mighty Groove
  • Engage in creative tasks to generate your own material

Alongside this:

  • Coaching session
  • Talk spaces
  • Creation of a short performance piece
  • Informal sharing at the end of the week

This is about getting back into your body, your creativity, and your voice.

  1. Monthly Online Sessions: 2 hours, August – January

Each session is a space to:

  • Check in honestly on where you are
  • Get support around challenges or blocks
  • Reconnect to what you’re working towards
  • Celebrate your wins and acknowledge what’s working well for you
  • Commit to your next steps

This isn’t about being given all the answers, It’s about being supported to figure out what’s best for you to do next, so you can keep going, consistently in a way that makes sense for you.

PLUS Industry Conversations

Across the programme, a small number of sessions will include guest conversations with artists and professionals from the industry.

AND Staying Connected Between Sessions

Alongside the monthly sessions, you’ll have access to a shared Slack space to stay connected in between sessions. This is a place to:

  • Share updates and wins
  • Ask questions
  • Stay connected to the group
  • Keep momentum going between sessions

This isn’t a 24/7 coaching space, but a light-touch way to stay in the conversation and feel supported as you move forward.

Coaching and Accountability

At the start of the programme, you’ll identify something you want to move forward. Not a perfect plan, something that matters to you. The focus is not information, it’s momentum.
